MUD traces the story of Kuala Lumpur’s early beginnings as a small agricultural village in the 1850s to an industrial tin mining town in the 1880s, and to becoming the administrative capital of the Federated Malay States in 1896. Housed in the building that was the former Town Hall, sitting right next to the confluence of the Gombak and Klang rivers that gave Kuala Lumpur its name, Mud is performed in the 113-yr old Panggung Bandaraya. The story is told through the lives of Kuala Lumpur’s early settlers; the challenges that they face and their determination in overcoming these obstacles. MUD infuses traditional cultural forms with modern theatrical technology. MUD ran for over 3 years, making it Malaysia’s longest running musical.
The show has received recognition on international platforms such as TripAdvisor by receiving a 5-star rating and was accredited with the Certificate of Excellence in 2016. At the 13th Annual BOH Cameronian Arts Awards, the show took home awards for Best Set Design, Best Lighting Design and the coveted Kaki Seni Audience Choice Award.
MUD: THE STORY OF KUALA LUMPUR is presented by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), a project by Visit KL, and was produced and directed by Tiara Jacqueline.
